Melissa Garcia and Toby Whiteside were married April 14 at the Harvey Coun ty Courthouse in Newton with Judge Walker presiding.

The bride is the daughter of Cy and Ginger Garcia of Florence. The groom is the son of Brian and Tammy Whiteside of Peabody and Marilyn and Roger Koehn of Newton.

The bride wore a long, white dress with spaghetti straps and carried a bouquet of blue and white roses.

Mr. and Mrs. James Hamm of Tampa announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Sara Nichole Hamm, to Tyler James Goldsby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Goldsby of Hillsboro.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Gaylord and Valera Hamm of Durham and George and Evelyn Youngers of Garfield. She graduated in 2005 from Hillsboro High School and is a student at Kansas State University majoring in elementary education.

Her fiance is the grandson of Marion and Jennie Goldsby of Norton and Raymond and Ardith Scheetz of Clayton. He graduated in 2005 from Hillsboro and was stationed for the past two years at Fort Riley with the U.S. Army. He will attend Kansas State University this fall and major...

Vaughn and Taryn Jost of Hillsboro announce the birth of a daughter, Aleah Samone, born May 9 at Newton Medical Center.

She weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

She joins three sisters, Tyah, 7, Kyan, 5, and Aisha, 2.

Grandparents are Gerald and Joan Jost of Hillsboro, Barb and Clay Shannon of Oklahoma and Glenn and Pam Ratzlaff of Hillsboro.

Great-grandfather is John C. Ratzlaff of Hillsboro.

Festivities July 3 at Schaeffler House

 

U.S. Congressman Jerry Moran will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Fourth of July festivities from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 3 at the Schaeffler House Museum in Hillsboro.

The evening’s entertainment will also include patriotic music on the east porch of the Schaeffler House. Kansas Rep. Don Dahl will read the Gettysburg Address as Abraham Lincoln.

The children’s “Red, White and Blue” patriotic parade will be formed at 6:15 p.m. west of the Schaeffler Carriage House. Hillsboro High School principal Dale Honeck, as Uncle Sam, will lead the parade. All children 12 and under are invited to bring their decorated wagons, tricycles, bikes, scooters and doll carriages to walk in...

Games, gab and goodies will be held for the ladies on Wednesday, June 27, at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Come for lunch and interesting facts about Paul Bunyan’s life Thursday, June 28, for Paul Bunyan Day.

Monday, July 2, is I Forgot Day, a day to send a thank-you and birthday you’ve forgotten to send over the year.

Tuesday, July 3, is Stay Out of the Sun Day. Mary McFadden will give foot care from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The center is closed Wednesday, July 4, for Independence Day.
