The Hillsboro High School Class of 1997 met July 14 at the Hillsboro Scout House for a 10-year class reunion. It was a casual event with a BBQ pork sandwich meal and time to get reacquainted. The event was organized by Jessi (Thurston) Weisbeck and Keli Chisholm.

Book group to meet Friday at libraryHillsboro Public Library’s book discussion group will meet at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at the public library.
The discussion will cover “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini.

The Kansas State Fair will add a new contest to the schedule for the 2007 fair.
The first Fresh American Lamb Sanctioned BBQ Cook-Off Contest, organized by the Kansas Sheep Council, along with the American Lamb Board and the Kansas City Barbeque, will allow contestants an opportunity to win cash prizes and trophies for their BBQ skills.

Aldine L. FunkAldine L. Funk, 81, former baker for USD 373, died Aug. 2 at her home.
The service was Aug. 6 at First Church of God in Newton, officiated by pastor Brian Curran. She was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
Aldine was born Oct. 25, 1925, to Albert and Anna (Scheikowsky) Pankratz in Hillsboro. On Sept. 1, 1947, she was married to Arlie Funk, who survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Sharon and Kevin Hudson of Newton; three sons, Dwight and Sharon Funk of Newton, Dale and Kay Funk of Newton and Terry and Robin Funk of Newton; two brothers, Harold Pankratz of Hillsboro and Paul Pankratz of Bella Vista, Ariz.; two sisters, Marjorie Just of Hillsboro and Marilyn Neally of Titusville, Fla.; eight...

The bride is the daughter of Lloyd and Debbie Ratzloff, Lehigh. The groom is the son of David and Debra Sidebottom, Parker, Colo.
Maid of honor was Mandy Ratzloff, Nashville, Tenn., sister of the bride, and bridesmaid was Danielle Johnson, Hillsboro, friend of the bride.
Best man was David Ratzloff, Lehigh, brother of the bride, and groomsman was Ryan Parr, Springfield, Mo., friend of the groom.
The flower girl was Alyssa Steele, cousin of the groom.
A dinner and dance reception at the Hillsboro American Legion followed the ceremony.
