Greetings from the Hillsboro Senior Center. We hope you will make it a point to join us for food, fun and fellowship this week.

We will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 3. Tuesday, Sept. 4, Mary McFadden will be here for Foot Care starting at 9 a.m. Call and make your appointments today. Noreen Weems will be our guest speaker after lunch on Wednesday, Sept. 5. She will share her thoughts on serving seniors for 27 years.

Clinton Bentz, 79

 

Clinton Bentz, 79, retired Kansas Department of Transportation employee, died Aug. 24 at Newman Regional Health Center in Emporia.

The funeral was held Aug. 28 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lincolnville, officiated by pastor Alan Stahlecker. Burial was in North Tampa Cemetery.

He was born March 21, 1928 to Herman and Sophie Bentz in Hope. On May 29, 1960 he was married to Elaine Young, who survives.

He is also survived by a son, Tim Bentz of Marion; two daughters, Cindi Smith of Lebo and Jeannette Bentz of Prairie Village; a brother, Ted Bentz of Stover, Mo.; a sister, Ellen Alvarez of Abilene; and three grandchildren.Oran Graham, 76

Alex Unruh

 

Mitchell and Carol Unruh of Tampa announce the birth of a son, Alex Craig, born Aug. 21 at Newton Medical Center.

He weighed 9 pounds and was 19 1/2 inches long.

He has a brother, Deryk, 21⁄2.

Grandparents are Ron and Lydia Toews of Sexsmith, Alberta, Canada and Warren and Jane Unruh of Lehigh. Great-grandparents are Harry and Lela Wedel of Tampa.

Marvin R. and Linda Voth of Goessel will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 3. A family gathering was held in mid-August to celebrate the event.

They were married Sept. 3, 1947 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. For most of their married lives, they farmed in rural Goessel and retired and moved to Goessel in 1994.

They have three sons, Verney and Janice Voth of rural Goessel, James and Gayle Voth of Goessel and Dwight and Jane Voth of Goessel; two daughters, LaVera and James Parker of Buhler and Connie and Kent Stucky of rural McPherson. They have eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

LTCU to hold fundraiser Aug. 23

 

The Hillsboro Long Term Care Unit will hold a fundraiser meal from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Hillsboro Farmer’s Market.

In addition to the meal, raffle tickets will be sold for a 50-year-old antique tablecloth as well as a crochet doily.

Funds raised from the event will go toward projects benefiting the LTCU residents.

 Fellowship hall dedication Aug. 26

 

The Aulne United Methodist Church will celebrate the completion of their fellowship hall Sunday, Aug. 26.

Services will begin at 9:10 a.m. in the sanctuary, followed by a dedication service and noon meal in the new fellowship hall.

A free lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
