Greetings from the Hillsboro Senior Center. We hope you make it a point to join us for food, fun and fellowship this week!

Joinus Thursday, Sept. 13, as Nancy Pihl shares with us about Trans Fatsafter lunch. Tuesday, Sept. 18 is the Senior Fair in Salina from 8 to 4p.m. You may register by calling 1-800-432-2703. Library accepting book donations

 

The Hillsboro Public Library is accepting book donations for its upcoming book sale at the end of September.

Only books in good condition will be accepted. Popular items include children’s books, Westerns and cookbooks.

Proceeds from the book sale will help purchase new materials for the library.

 Whitewater to host Bunco Tournament

 

The Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Bunco Tournament during Whitewater’s Fall Festival.

The tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 at Remington Middle School in Whitewater.

Area Bunco players are invited to compete. Registration deadline is Sept. 22.

Ida Benda, 85

 

Ida Benda, 85, a former dental assistant, died Sept. 5 in a Madera, Calif. hospital.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 11 at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera. She will be buried at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 in Holy Family Parish Cemetery in Pilsen.

She is survived by a son, Scott and Susan Benda of Eagle, Ind.; a daughter, Gwen and Bob Craig of Madera; and three grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with St. Joachim’s Church Building Fund, 401 W. Fifth St., Madera, CA, 93637.

Joyce Mize, 87, former teacher and merchant, died Sept. 8 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.

Harden, Whiteman to wed Nov. 24

Kimberly Harden and Jess Whiteman announce their engagement and approaching marriage.

Their parents are Paul and Linda Harden of Ashland and Gail and Lousie Whiteman of Marion.

The bride-elect is a 2001 graduate of Ashland High School and received a degree in elementary education from Tabor College in 2005. She is employed as a fourth grade teacher at Marion Elementary School.

The groom-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Marion High School. He attended North Central Kansas Technical College in Beloit. He is a farmer and is employed as a welder at Agco in Hesston.

The couple will be married Nov. 24 at Ashland United Methodist Church.

Gracie Kruse 

Jason and Ruby Kruse of Marion announce the birth of a daughter, Gracie Joy, born Aug. 25 at Birth Inn in Wichita.

She weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was 22 1/2 inches long.

Grandparents are Charles and Annora Goering and Dwight and Jerrie Kruse, all of Marion.
