The Hillsboro High School Class of ’57 enjoyed their 50-year reunion with a dinner Friday, May 25, at the new Milk & Honey Bed & Breakfast located 3½ miles east of Hillsboro. Their festivities continued with golf on Saturday morning, a float in the Folk Festival Parade in the afternoon, the all-school reunion at the high school in the evening followed by an “afterglow” at the home of Bob and Betty Seibel. Prairie Days event at Maxwell refugeMaxwell Wildlife Refuge, located six miles north of Canton, will hold its 19th annual Prairie Days event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 2, and Sunday, June 3.
The event includes buffalo tours every hour, stagecoach rides, mountain men camps and traders, early-day Kansas demonstrations, baby calf viewings, wildflower and bird walks and arts and crafts.
Concession will include buffalo burgers.
Musical entertainment will feature Tall Grass Express String Band at 10 a.m. and Powder River Band at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Walnut River String Band at noon Sunday.
Gate admission is $2 per person and free for children 4 and under. Buffalo tours are $5 per person and stagecoach rides are $3 per...

Memorial Day at Memorial ParkMemorial Day services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Memorial Park in Hillsboro, hosted by the American Legion Hillsboro Post No. 366.
Speaker will be Kansas Sen. Vicki Schmidt of the 20th District.
A $10 steak dinner will follow at noon in the Legion ballroom.

Karen Ross Epp will share the story of her brother Stan, a fallen Vietnam soldier, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at the Marion City Library.
Epp is the author of “With Love, Stan: A Soldier’s Letters from Vietnam to the World,” a collection of letters and photos she and mother Rose saved.

Kelly and Brenda Bernhardt of Marion announce the birth of a daughter, Cassidy Michelle, born May 1 at Newton Medical Center.
She weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces and was 20 inches long.
She joins sisters Cheyenne, 5, and Callie, 3.
Grandparents are LaVerne and Janice Stika of Herington and Jim and Teresa Bernhardt of Marion. Great-grandparents are Agnes Bernhardt and Lauren and Luetta Enns, all of Hillsboro.
