Carry-in meal will be Wednesday, June 20, at the Hillsboro SeniorCenter. Bring your own table settings. Haris Zafar will check hearingat 11:15 a.m. Max Terman will speak after lunch on the Civil War.

Wear shorts, capris or open-toed shoes to the center to kick off the first day of summer Thursday, June 21.

Birthday dinner is Monday, June 25, with special music by Julia Jost before lunch.

Arnold Brenzikofer

 

Arnold F. Brenzikofer, 96, former co-op manager, died June 5 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.

Service was June 16 at the manor chapel with Jayne Duncan officiating. Inurnment was in Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.

He was born March 30, 1911, to Frank and Ida R. Stackley Brenzikofer in Burns. On Jan. 6, 1940, he was married to Bessie Thompson, who died in 1974. On Sept. 6, 1975, he was married to Thelma Rankin, who died in 1994.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Gail Rollo of Har­lingen, Texas; a stepson, Jim Rigdon of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Harold of Emporia and Leroy of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Martha Shinn of New­ton, Idabelle Boyd of Hutchinson and Edna Bayes of Valley Center; 13...

Jerry Jost (center), coordinator of the Kansas Rural Center’s “Grow Your Own Farmers’ Market Project,” visits the Hillsboro Farmers’ Market Thursday. The project guides individuals in developing a business plan for a successful farmers’ market, cultivating mentoring relationships to build stronger market leadership and holding annual conferences to provide information and training on better market management and promotion.

Lions clubs to serve SightFirst II supper

 

The Hillsboro Leo Club, Evening Lions Club and Noon Lions Club will serve a fund-raiser meal from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Farmers’ Market outside the Schaeffler House in Hillsboro.

The meal will benefit the Lions Campaign SightFirst II, a program conducted by the Lions Clubs International Foundation to raise $150 million to reduce preventable and reversable blindness and restore eyesight to millions.

Campaign SightFirst I raised $143 million in 1990 to support catacract surgeries and provide treatment for river blindness. SightFirstII will continue these projects and add support for pediatric eye care centers and expansion of eye hospitals and...

Commodity distribution will start at 10 a.m. June 13 at the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Wearred, white and blue June 14 to the Hillsboro Senior Center in honor ofFlag Day. Thane Streit will speak after lunch on investing.

A Father’s Day meal will be held June 15. Bring memories and pictures to share. Men’s coffee will follow at 3 p.m.

Mary McFadden will be available for foot care by appointment from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19.

JeanneRziha will be offering diabetes classes from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 19and 26. Cost is $15 per class and $10 for materials. To sign up, callthe pharmacy or Jeanne at 947-3048.
