The Hillsboro Senior Center is closed Wednesday, July 4, for Independence Day.

Lowell Goering will share some humor after lunch Thursday, July 5.

A macaroni-art craft activity will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6.

Mary McFadden will give foot care by appointment from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. A game of Scrabble will be held after lunch.

Come for candy and facts about chocolate at Chocolate Fest Wednesday, July 11.

The four living children of G.M. and Helena Warkentin were honored at a reunion of descendants Tuesday evening, June 26, at Parkview Church in Hillsboro. The children are (from left) Ruth Wenger, 90, Mary Thiessen, 98, Lydia McDonald, 92, and Helen, who was observing her 93rd birthday. With them are Helen’s husband Ike Thiessen, 95, and Elma Warkentin, 87, a sister-in-law. The evening included a meal as well as visiting and reminiscing. Also participating were: J.D. and Nancy Unruh, Glen and Lois Janzen, Eunice and Darrell Doerksen, Lyle and Betty Jones from Wichita; Janet Hein, Ron Warkentin, Joyce Kessler, Arlene Schale, Lyndon Thiessen and family from Hillsboro. Marion City Library will be holding a party to celebrate the end of its summer reading program at 7 p.m. July 13 at the Marion City Auditorium.

Sponsored by Central National Bank, Rob Holladay will entertain with storytelling, magic and music.

Following the program will be a walk back to the library to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the new library at the old depot.

Ice cream from Schwann’s will be served at 8 p.m.

Jeremy and Michele Gossen of Peabody announce the birth of a son, Cade Dylan, born May 29 at Newton Medical Center.

He weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19 inches long.

He joins brother Colton, 2.

Grandparents are Lee and Cathy Jantzen of Peabody and Stan and Geri Gossen of Corn, Okla.

Great-grandparents are Merle and Emma Douglas of Marion and Sam and Naemi Gossen of Corn, Okla.

Melissa Garcia and Toby Whiteside were married April 14 at the Harvey Coun ty Courthouse in Newton with Judge Walker presiding.

The bride is the daughter of Cy and Ginger Garcia of Florence. The groom is the son of Brian and Tammy Whiteside of Peabody and Marilyn and Roger Koehn of Newton.

The bride wore a long, white dress with spaghetti straps and carried a bouquet of blue and white roses.

Maid of honor was Amber Wilson, sister-in-law and friend of the bride.

Best man was Nathan Diaz, friend of the groom.

Photographer was Lee Becker.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Peabody American Legion.
