Richard and Rhonda (Rath) Brenzikofer of Marion will be guests of honor, Aug. 25, at a reception for their 50th wedding anniversary. The event will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Community Center in Burns, hosted by their daughters and families.

The Brenzikofers were married Aug. 25, 1957 at Florence Methodist Church.

Blood drive scheduled for Aug. 17 

A Red Cross blood drive is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17 at United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St., Hillsboro.

Walk-in donors are welcome, but those with appointments will have first priority. To make an appointment, call 1-800-GIVE LIFE. Child development screening Aug. 21

A free screening for children birth through 5 years old will be offered from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, in Peabody at the Peabody Methodist Church, 403 N. Sycamore.

The screening will assess development in the cognitive, social-emotional, motor and speech/language areas. Vision, hearing, and nutrition will also be checked.

The screening usually takes about one hour for a child to complete.

Eldon H. Harper

 

Eldon H. Harper, 75, former employee of Severy Co-op and national guardsman, died Aug. 8 at his home in McPherson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Canton Christian Church with pastor Birger Draget presiding. Burial will take place at Canton Township Cemetery.

He was born on March 28, 1932, to Henry William and Marie (Houghton) Harper. On Dec. 5, 1953, he was married to Patricia Bower, who survives.

He is also survived by six sons, Robert Harper of Wichita, Ralph Harper of El Dorado, Curt Harper of Holdrege, Neb., Sidney Harper of Canton, Eldon Harper of Canton and Ervin Harper of Hutchinson; two daughters, Jaquetta Million of McPherson and Velvola Brown of Colby; two sisters, Sister...

Greetings from the Hillsboro Senior Center.

Thursday, Aug. 16, we will show “The Wizard of Oz” after lunch. Men’s Coffee will start at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. Monday Aug. 20 is Hawaii Day. We encourage seniors to wear any Hawaiian clothing they have into the center. Tuesday, Aug. 21, we will have Show and Tell after lunch. Please bring something from your school days to share.

Please note: Commodity distribution will being at 10 am, Thursday, Aug. 23. This is a change from last week. Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion.

WaitAshleyWedding bw.jpg WaitAshleyWedding bw.jpg Natalie Lynn Wait, Kansas City, and Joshua Kyle Ashley, Goessel, were married March 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Nall Avenue Church of the Nazarene in Prairie Village with Robert Castile of Great Bend officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Stephanie Wait, Kansas City. The groom is the son of Frank and Joyce Ashley, Goessel.Escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory colored tea-length gown and carried a bouquet of tulips and roses in varying shades of lavender and green for the St. Patrick’s Day affair.

Maid of honor was Emily Wait, sister of the bride. Best man was Nathan Ashley, brother of the groom.
