Charles Kjellin, 86

 

Charles Willard Kjellin, 86, farmer, died Nov. 21 at the Golden Living Center in Marion.

The funeral was Nov. 24 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion.

He was born Aug. 28, 1921, to Willard and Edna (Mitchell) Kjellin near Garrison. On April 9, 1950, he was married to JoAnn Peterson, who predeceased him in 2002.

He is survived by his children, Mary Beth Bowers, Karen Kelly, Pat Enos and Doug Kjellin; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

BrianAmyJay.jpg BrianAmyJay.jpg Amy Elizabeth McMillen of Blackjack, Texas, and Brian Lee Jay of Little Elm, Texas, were married Oct. 6 at Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville, Texas.

The ceremony was officiated by Judge Chris Davis.

The bride is the daughter of George and Judy McKinney of Blackjack, and the late Duncan McMillen. The groom is the son of Larry and Peggy Jay of Goessel.

Bride’s attendants were John Dobroski, friend of the bride, Debbie McKinney, sister of the bride, Karyn Dobroski, friend of the bride, and Tammy Vierkant, sister of the bride. The flower girl was Valerie Vierkant, niece of the bride.

Their parents are Mike and Karen Schley of Raleigh, N.C., and John and Judy Johnson of Lawrence.

The bride-elect graduated in 2001 from William and Mary with a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and is a 2006 graduate of Simmons College with a master’s degree in education. She is employed as an academic case manager and teacher at Landmark School in Manchester, Mass.

The groom-to-be graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1993. He is a 1997 graduate of the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. He received a doctorate in chemical engineering in 2006 from Massachusetts Institute...

Bruce and Kimberlee Jost of Hillsboro announce the birth of a daughter, Talia Lisette, born Oct. 24 at Newton Medical Center.

She weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces and was 211⁄2 inches long.

She has a sister, Ella, 4.

Maternal grandparents are Lee and Sandi Krienke of Etowah, N.C., and paternal grandparents are Dale and Shirley Jost of Topeka. Great-grandparents are Marvin and Rosella Jost of Hillsboro.

Alexanderfeld to hold benefit supper

 

The Alexanderfeld youth group will hold a benefit supper from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at the Hillsboro Senior Center. Singing will begin at 8 p.m.

Donations for the supper of grilled chicken, gourmet potatoes, French bread, salads, and dessert will go to the Children’s Home in Wichita.

The public is invited to attend a Thanksgiving Day Service at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, located near Goessel.
