Tim and Tera Carr of Hillsboro announce the birth of a daughter, Hayden Renee, born Dec. 12 at Newton Medical Center.
She weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21½ inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Kevin and Pat Heeke of Spearville and the late Cheryl Heeke. Paternal grandparents are Dick and Kathy Carr of Hillsboro. Great-grandparents are Elizabeth Beller of Spearville, Robin Gery of Grottoes, Va., and Wanda Carr of Marion.

Greetings from the Hillsboro Senior Center. We wish you many blessings, peace and love this new year. Come and make the Senior Center part of your week.Darla Stonehouse from the Newton Medical Center will share with us after lunch Thursday, Jan. 17. Paul Jantzen will share winter snow slides after lunch Friday, Jan. 18 and men’s coffee will begin at 3 p.m. The Senior Center will be closed Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Velma L. Dyck Jantzen, 75, of Hesston, a retired schoolteacher, died Jan. 14 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.Velma L. Dyck Jantzen, 75, of Hesston, a retired schoolteacher, died Jan. 14 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro.A service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Meridian Church, rural Hesston, with ministers Eldon Wenger and Shawn Giesel officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
A service also is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the Cimarron Mennonite Church with burial following at the Cimarron Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Leland T. Byrns, 83, of Canton, retired carpenter and construction worker, died Jan. 10 at Mercy Hospital in Moundridge.The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Grace Lutheran Church in McPherson. Burial will be at the Canton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday Jan. 13 at Olson’s Mortuary in Canton.
He was born Dec. 16, 1924, to Frank E. and Minnie (Fullerton) Byrns in Meade. On July 29, 1945, he was married to Ruby M. Vogts, who predeceased him in 1995.
He is survived by two sons, Donald D. and Wanda Byrns and Michael R. Byrns, all of McPherson; a daughter, Shirley A. and Ken Wilson of Hutchinson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lance Daniel Selznick, 19, of Lincolnville, current senior at Centre High School and student assistant for the boy’s basketball team, died Jan. 9 at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Burdick.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Centre High School Gymnasium, rural Lost Springs. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 at Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.
He was born Sept. 26, 1988, in Northridge, Calif.
