Jessica Lynn Deines and Andrew John Hajek, both of Tampa, were married at 4 p.m. Sept. 1.

The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Alan Stahlecker at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington.

The bride’s parents are Jeff and Gayla Deines of Ramona. The groom’s parents are John and Carla Hajek of Tampa.

Grandparents of the bride are Mervin and Leona Deines of Ramona. Grandfather of the groom is Lowell Barten of Hope.

Free child screening in Hillsboro Jan. 8

Marion County Early Inter­vention Services will offer a free screening for children birth through age 5 on Tuesday, Jan, 8, at Hillsboro United Methodist Church, 905 E. D St.

Appointments will be available from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

At the screening, development will be checked in the learning, motor, language and social areas. Vision and hearing also will be screened. This process usually takes at least one hour for a child to complete.

All children are welcome, but an appointment is necessary. To make one, call 620-382-2858.

We hope everyone had a merry Christmas and will have a happy New Year.

The center and activities resume Dec. 26 with Bingo after the noon meal.

The birthday dinner is scheduled Monday, Dec. 31.

Also remember the center is closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s.

Volunteers continue to be needed at the center and anyone interested can do one or more days a month from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Those who help get their meal that day free. If someone can give their time, please call. It’s great fellowship.

We can use more program ideas. Everyone enjoys music or learning about trips, crafts or other hobbies and those who present a program get their meal that day, too.

Allison Paige Tanner and Justin Dean Hein, both of Newton, were married at 2 p.m. June 9 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro.

The double-ring ceremony was officiated by pastor Steve Schroeder.

The bride’s parents are William and Lisa Tanner of Newton.

Parents of the groom are Dean and Beth Hein of Hillsboro. His grandparents are Edward and Margaret Hein of Hillsboro and the late Earl and MaryAnn Madsen of Peabody.

The sanctuary was decorated with white lights, white tulle, white pew bows and bouquets of stargazer lilies, and the wedding colors were fuchsia and yellow.

Haris Zafar will be here at 11 a.m. Dec. 19 to do hearing checks. We will also have our business meeting with board members that day during the noon meal.

The center will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for the Christmas holidays, but for those who want frozen meals, please let us know so they can be prepared and ready for pick up Friday, Dec. 21.

No more reservations are available for the Dec. 21 Christmas dinner at the center, but meals will be available for pick up after 11 a.m. Just let us know.

January menus are ready. We also need volunteers. Anyone who can work from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. a few times a month is welcome. Those volunteering also receive a free meal the day they work.
