Library selling bags of books for funds

Hillsboro Public Library is selling books for $1 per bag through May 21. Proceeds will help fund library services.

The books are displayed on tables in the hallway in City Hall, 118 E. Grand.

 

Hymn sing set for May 20 at HMBC

The monthly community hymn sing is planned for 7 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, 300 Prairie Pointe.

Singing, prayer and scripture reading will be a part of the service.

Marion couple to celebrate 60 years

Jim and Carol Hett of Marion are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple were married May 25, 1952. They have three children: Tim and Rob, both of Marion, and Kimberly and Mike Metcalf of Roseburg, Ore., five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Our business meeting is at noon on Wednesday and May 23, Haris Zafar of Wichita will provide hearing aid checks.

The center is closed Monday, May 28, in honor of Memorial Day.

The need for volunteers continues and anyone who helps will get a free meal that day.

Also, please come and join us for a meal. Everyone is welcome no matter what their age. Meals are $2.75 for those 60 and older and $4.50 for anyone 59 and younger. It’s a great price for a meal and, with school almost out, the whole family can come.

The coffee pot is on by 8 a.m. and we would like to see you here.

Jess and Kimberly Whiteman of Marion announce the birth of their son, Kipton Isaiah Whiteman, born March 21 in Manhattan.

He weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long.

Welcoming him home is his sister, Aubrey, 21 months old.

Maternal grandparents are Paul and Linda Harden of Ashland. Paternal grandparents are Gail and Louise Whiteman of Marion.

 

Shiloh Wiebe

Dalton and Lorna Wiebe of Tampa announce the birth of their daughter, Shiloh Grace Wiebe, born April 30 at Newton Medical Center, Newton.

She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and was 201⁄2 inches long.

Delton and Denice Klassen of Halstead and Gary and Georgette Rose of Overland Park announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their children, Rebecca Klassen and Brett Rose, both of Overland Park.

Grandparents of the bride-to-be are Lloyd and Evalina Klassen of Hillsboro and John and the late Raelene Barth of Golden, Colo.

The future bride is a 2006 graduate of Halstead High School. She received her bachelor of science degree in secondary education-social studies from Kansas State University in 2011.
