Lee Leiker, USD 408 superintendent, introduced himself as “an athlete” to Marion Elementary School students during Thursday’s opening ceremony of the MES Olympics. Leiker ran to the school yelling he had an announcement to make from the Olympic committee. “By proclamation of the Olympic committee chairman,” he said, “the theme of these Olympics is to think, believe and achieve.” Addressing more than 200 students, Leiker said, MES is to be a school of champions. “We want you to think that you can be successful. We want you to try by preparing yourself to study and doing your homework and to read,” he said. “We want you to believe you are great students and achieve every single day and have a great Olympic year.”
