Penner receives caregiver award from KAHSA

Elva J. Penner of Parkside Community Homes, Inc., has received the "Caregiver of the Year" award from the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

The award was presented at the association's annual spring convention May 8 in Wichita.

Penner was feted for her "outstanding, positive attitude that spreads and is contagious."

"She is like a breath of fresh air and her presence brings calmness and peace where there is anxiety and uncertainty," according to those who nominated her. "She is willing to go the extra mile for residents and others."

The Caregiver of the Year Award is intended to recognize a staff member of volunteers who has demonstrated exceptional service to the elderly during the year.

Two area nursing homes feted by state association

Parkside Homes of Hillsboro and Bethesda Home of Goessel were honored May 8 with a "Recognition Award" by the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging during the organization's spring convention in Wichita.

Recognition Awards are presented to association members receiving three or fewer nursing-care deficiencies on their annual survey by by Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Parkside Homes was one of 26 nursing facilities in the state to receive zero deficiencies.

KAHSA is a statewide association of more than 160 non-profit nursing facilities and retirement communities.

HCMC commended by state for timely birth registration

Hillsboro Community Medical Center received a certificate of achievement from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in appreciation for the way HCMC handles the birth-registration process.

Voncile Dirks, health information manager, is responsible for the process.

In 2002, HCMC submitted 100 percent of births within 10 days of delivery. Timely reporting of birth certificates is important for a number of reasons, including that parents need a certified copy soon after birth for Social Security.

Mayfield appointed to regional subcommittee

Sondra Mayfield, Healthy Start home visitor and Safe Kids chapter coordinator for the Marion County Health Department, has been appointed as chairperson for the Subcommittee on Injury Prevention for the South Central Kansas Trauma Region.

This region includes 19 counties: Barber, Rice, McPherson, Marion, Pawnee, Stafford, Reno, Harvey, Butler, Sedgwick, Cowley, Sumner, Harper, Kingman, Barton, Comanche, Kiowa, Edwards and Pratt.

Hanschu is 'All-American Agent' for AFIG in 2003

Jayson Hanschu of Hillsboro has been named an "All-American Agent" by American Family Insurance Group for the year ended April 2003.

The award was based on a combination of sales and service performances. About one-fourth of American Family's 4,000-plus agents earn the qualification.

The Jayson Hanschu Agency offers product lines in home, auto, life, health, long-term care and business.

Agri Producers recognized by livestock feed company

Agri Producers Inc. of Lincolnville has qualified as a CRYSTALYX "Four Star" dealer.

The qualification recognizes the company of its sales excellence and outstanding service.

To earn the four-star designation, API had to meet five requirements that focus on employee training, customer service, product inventory, feeder meetings and product merchandising.

Northview license renewed

Northview Developmental Services, Inc., recently was granted another year of full licensure through Social and Rehabilitative Services. The annual license is effective July 1 to June 30, 2004.

Print Source Direct receives award from KDOC&H

Print Source Direct LLC, publisher of the Hillsboro Free Press, Hillsboro Free Press Extra and the Marion County Advocate, was one of 35 businesses in south-central Kansas to be recognized by the Kansas Department of Commerce & Housing for its contribution to the Kansas economy.

The company was presented a merit award at a regional ceremony June 6 at the Rice County Activity Center in Lyons as part of KDOC&H's celebration of Kansas Business Appreciation Month.

Six regional ceremonies are being held statewide throughout June

In addition to its publications, Print Source Direct also is a print brokerage firm specializing in the design and printing of books, catalogs, school yearbooks and magazines for clients throughout the Midwest.

Established in the home of Joel Klaassen in 1995, the company now employs 26 people on a full-time or part-time basis in a 1,120-square-foot building at 116 S. Main.
