Amanda Bina’s base-loaded triple sparked a five-run sixth inning that carried the Hillsboro High softball team to a 7-1 victory and a sweep of their doubleheader with Lyons Friday at the Sports Complex.

Hillsboro scored six runs in the sixth inning of Game 1 to win by run rule, 11-1.

While HHS led Game 1 comfortably, 5-0, after the first three innings, Game 2 was a close contest until the late Trojan surge.

Hillsboro took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a leadoff double by Lora Andrews, a single by Steph Abbott and a one-out ground out by Jenesa Klose.

But Lyons cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth on a one-out double and a run-scoring single.

In the bottom of the inning, Klose was hit by a pitch, Rachelle Goldsby reached on an error and Corissa Bartel was safe on a fielder’s choice to load the bases with no outs. Bina then brought them all home with her triple. Meg Jost reached base when the Lyons fielder held her bunted ball to prevent Bina from scoring. But Jessica Klose brought Bina home with a sacrifice bunt and Andrews drove in Jost with a single for the fifth run of the inning.

Jenesa Klose (7-4) struck out five Lyons and allowed only four hits on the way to victory.

In Game 1, Hillsboro scored two runs in the first inning on singles by Jessica Klose and Steph Abbott. The Trojans scored three more times in the third inning, thanks to three walks, an error and a triple by Bri Loewen.

The Lions touched Jenesa Klose for a run in the top of the fifth on a walk and a two-out triple, but Hillsboro’s five-run burst in the bottom of the sixth ended the game by run rule with only one out.

Goldsby, Jenesa Klose and Andrews contributed singles to the rally and Bina added a double to go with three Lyons errors.

Jenesa Klose scattered five hits and two walks while striking out a season-high 10 batters.

Coming—On Tuesday, April 24, the Trojans played Sterling to a 4-4 tie in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader before rain and severe weather warnings suspended play. The two teams will resume that game May 7, and then play Game 2.

This week, the Trojans were schedule to play a makeup doubleheader at Wichita Collegiate on Monday followed by a doubleheader at Hesston on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, May 8, the Trojans will entertain Haven for a doubleheader at the Sports Complex. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
