Joanne Loewen has been named this year’s recipient of the Clarence R. Hiebert Excellence in Teaching Award at Tabor College.ge.
The award is given annually to the faculty member who best exemplifies the qualities of excellent teaching: a strong Christian commitment, a record of excellence in teaching at least three years at Tabor, evidence of integrating faith and learning and contribution to the overall academic climate.<p>Loewen, assistant professor of education, was acknowledged at the college’s honors and awards chapel Wednesday, April 25.<p>“I am very humbled and honored to receive this award,” Loewen said. “I remember taking classes from Clarence Hiebert, and the personal interest he took in individual students. It is an honor to receive an award in his name.”<p>The honor includes a plaque and a cash award.<p>Loewen earned her bachelor’s degree at Tabor and her master’s degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She joined the Tabor faculty in 1999.<p>Past recipients include: Allen Hiebert, 2000; Judy Harder, 2001; Lynn Jost, 2002; David Faber, 2003; Frank Brenneman, 2004; Aleen Ratzlaff, 2005; and Karol Hunt, 2006.
