The MHS boys took fourth out of eight teams at the event.

The Marion track team visited the Smoky Valley Invitational on Monday, and returned with a number of top finishes.

On the boys side, Jake Czarnowsky edged out Hillsboro’s Grant Schneider in the 300-meter hurdles race to take first place with a time of 43.25 seconds.

Daniel Goentzel claimed second in the 3200 with a time of 10:41. Hillsboro’s Cody McMillen took first place.

On the boys side, the Warriors added third place marks from Jason Hett (2:09 in the 800) and Luke Gordon (6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump) and took fourth place among eight teams.

On the girls side, Marion took third place overall behind first-place finishes in the long jump, 3200, 1600 and 100:

Julia Zeiner (16 feet, 11 inches) and Kalaya Jackson (16 feet, 3 1⁄4 inches) claimed the top two places in the long jump.

Danielle Cope (12:27) finished first in the 3200.

Camille Christensen (5:50) took the top spot in the 1600, and Erin Carr won the 100 with a time of 12.63 seconds.

Carr (25.99) finished just a hair behind Hillsboro’s Hannah Marsh (25.97) for second place in the 200 .

Kayley Heerey, Jackson, Zeiner and Carr teamed up to take second in the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.23 seconds, a scant 2⁄100 of a second behind the quartet from Concordia.

The 4x800 team took third place overall. Cope, Chrstensen, Amanda Richmond and Danae Edwards completed the race in 10:44.

Erin Richmond threw the javelin 111 feet and claimed second place in the event.

The Warriors were in action again on Tuesday as the CKTL came to Marion High, and will be in Hillsboro on Friday.
