Ruth Epp

Ruth S. Epp, 93, died April 14 at Kidron Bethel Health Care in North Newton.

The service was held April 18 at Tabor Mennonite Church in rural Goessel with Corey Miller officiating. Burial was at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Hillsboro.

She was born Feb. 24, 1914, to Henry J.S. and Sara (Schroeder) Schmidt in Harvey County. On Nov. 9, 1939, she was married to Paul F. Epp, who died Feb. 9.

She is survived by a son, Weldon and Bonnie of Newton; a daughter, Verda and Geoffrey Deckert of Newton; a brother, Dannie Schmidt of Goessel; a sister, Elsie Schmidt of Goessel; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial has been established with Mennonite Central Committee in care of Petersen Funeral Home in Newton.

 

Ruth Goentzel

 

Ruth H. Goentzel, 88, retired licensed practical nurse and cook, died April 20 at Golden Living Center in Marion.

The service was held April 24 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion with Carl Helm officiating. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 25, 1919, to Thomas and Ada (Herndon) Macon in Weir City, Mo. On Nov. 20, 1943, she was married to Edward Goentzel, who died in 1989.

She is survived by three sons, Bill of Marion, Jack of Englewood, Colo., and Thomas of Marmouth, Maine; two daughters, Virginia Jost of Valley Center and Linda Higley of Morrison, Colo.; a brother, Donald Hill of Senora, Calif.; four sisters, May Corey of Lodi, Calif.; LaVonne Brittian of Orlando, Fla.; Orpha Newman of Stockton, Calif.; and Ozie Dixon of Wichita; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with Marion Christian Church, Eastmoor United Methodist Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.

 

Donna Avery

 

Donna L. Weast-Boone-Avery, 66, co-owner of Stone City Cafe in Marion, died April 20 near Marion.

The service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Emanuel Baptist Church in Marion with Josh Wesner officiating. Burial is at Strassburg Cemetery in rural Marion.

She was born July 14, 1940, to Walter and Ada Davis in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was married to Rolland Weast. She was married to Richard Boone, who predeceased her. She was married to Austin “Pete” Avery, who survives in rural Marion.

She is also survived by two daughters, Deborah and Richard Cook of Marion and Sheryl and Steve Reed of Wichita; two stepsons, Ike and Brenda Boone of Marion and Ed Creekmore of Bentley; two stepdaughters, Cynthia and Bob Shaw of El Dorado and Louise Morrison of Branson, Mo.; two sisters, Janette Bishop and Eva Bratcher, both of Van Alstyne, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Memorials have been established with King’s Daughters and American Cancer Society in care of Zeiner Funeral Home in Marion.
