Trojan girls first, boys second at Conrad Nightingale

Led by three meet-record performances by JuliAnne Chisholm, the Hillsboro girls’ ran away from a 16-team field at the Conrad Nightingale Invitational track and field meet Friday in Halstead.
Hillsboro got a school-record performance from its 4x100 team to place second in the boys’ division.
Chisholm’s record-setting gold medals came in the high jump (5 feet, 7 inches), 100-meter hurdles (14.59) and 300-meter hurdles (46.24). Chisholm also teamed with Tina Frick, Tiffany Rooker and Hannah Marsh to win the 4x400 (4:10.09).
Also winning gold for the Trojans were Hannah Marsh in the pole vault (9-6), long jump (17-1) and 200 meters (26.46) and Dakota Kaufman in the triple jump (34-9).
Frick added silver medals in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and Chelsea Bebermeyer did likewise in the discus.
For the boys, Adam Dirks won the Trojans’ only gold medal with a winning throw in the javelin (164-4).
Winning individual silver for HHS were Jacob Yoder in the long jump, Cody McMillen in the 3,200, Sean Leihy in the 1,600 and Tyler Kaufman in the triple jump.
All three relay teams placed second as well: the 4x100 team of Yoder, Michael Suderman, Michael Tisdale and Ishmael Morris, the 4x400 team of Yoder, Leihy, Morris and Spencer Brown, and the 4x800 team of Brown, Nathan Vogel, Leihy and McMillen.
The 4x100 team’s time of 43.19 eclipsed the school record of 44.1 set first in 2001 and then tied in 2003 and 2004. It also would have set a new meet record except that Haven crossed the tape first in 43.08.
Haven’s effort was anchored by Isaih Barfield, whose earlier first-place time of 10.77 broke the 100-meter meet record of 10.8 set in 2002 by Hillsboro’s Alan Yoder.
With most of its team competing at the KU Relays, Marion girls placed 14th with nine points. Kalaya Jackson led the team with a third-place finish in the triple jump.
The Warrior boys tied for seventh with 33 points. Leading the team with third-place performances were Kyle Hett in the long jump, Daniel Goentzel in the 3,200 and the 4x400 team.
Sterling—The Hillsboro girls took first and the boys second at a Central Kansas Track League quint at Sterling April 17.
The girls scored 118 points to outdistance Wichita Independent with 95. JuliAnne Chisholm won three individual events and Hannah Marsh two to pace the Trojans.
Chisholm won the high jump (5-6), 100-meter hurdles 15.47 and 300-meter hurdles (46.56) while Marsh won the long jump (15-9) and the 200 meters (26.53).
Dakota Kaufman earned Hillsboro’s other gold medal in the triple jump (34-1).
The boys, meanwhile, scored 102 points but still fell short of Sterling with 108.
Winning individual gold were Jacob Yoder in the long jump (20-8), Adam Dirks in the javelin (176-101⁄2) and Grant Schneider in the 110-meter hurdles (16.74).
Hillsboro swept all three relays, winning the 4x100 (44.49), the 4x400 3:36.98) and the 4x800 (8:50.17).
Coming—The Trojans were scheduled on Monday to compete at the Smoky Valley Invitational, which was postponed because of inclement weather April 13.
Key athletes likely will not compete at a five-team varsity meet scheduled for Goessel on Tuesday.
On Friday, the Trojans will play host to the James Thomas Invitational at the Tabor College track. Events begin at 3 p.m.
