Unified School District 410 Board of Education dealt with several personnel issues at its regular meeting Monday night.

The board accepted four resignations, including Leslie Beery as director for Parents as Teachers, Melissa Just as elementary physical education instructor and assistant volleyball coach, Lisa Hoffman as middle school science teacher, and Dale Honeck as high school girls’ head basketball coach.

Teachers must notify the district by May 15 if they do not intend to accept the contract for the upcoming year.
The board took no action to non-renew contracts. Three faculty will receive tenure with the renewal of their current teaching contract: Doug Dick, elementary math; Bruce Major, high school math, and Lynn Just, high school and middle school vocal music.
The board also approved issuing certified personnel supplemental contracts for coaches and sponsors of classes and extra-curricular activities.
Prior to the vote, board member Eddie Weber had proposed an amendment to omit Stuart Holmes from the list of personnel offered supplemental contracts. The amendment, however, died for lack of a second.
Building administrators updated board members about several recent events.
Hillsboro Elementary School principal Evan Yoder reported 37 students completed kindergarten screening, up eight from last year.
“That’s positive,” Yoder said about the turnout. He also said with state assessments nearly done, preliminary results look promising.
With state assessments for reading and math nearly complete at Hillsboro Middle School, principal Greg Brown said he also anticipated good scores at grade levels.
Hillsboro High School principal Dale Honeck highlighted upcoming events that included prom, scheduled for April 21.
“It’s really busy as we wrap up the school year,” Honeck said.
The board spent time discussing the high school attendance policy. Honeck said clarity is needed in the student handbook regarding what qualifies as excused and unexcused absences. He said he will bring a recommendation.
Superintendent Gordon Mohn reviewed financial projections for the 2007-08 school year. He said he expected to see an increase of only $817 in available operating funds compared to the current year.
In other business, the board
n reviewed and made several revisions to a booklet with information about the bond election on Tuesday, June 5. The 16-page booklet will be available for distribution to the public and will be used at community meetings.
Mohn said he is also working on a tri-fold pamphlet that will highlight the information.
n discussed several issues related to voting procedures.
n approved the school calendar for 2007-08. Good Friday falls during spring break next year.
n met in executive sessions to discuss personnel, property acquisition, salary negotiations and a student matter.
