Despite putting 15 shots on goal, the Tabor College men's soccer team finished with a 1-1 tie against McPherson Oct. 15.
The Bluejays took out a measure of frustration with a 3-1 win over Bethany in Lindsborg Saturday.
McPherson—The Bulldogs scored the 1-0 marker under 10 minutes into the contest, and turned the early lead into a draw.
“The men had an excellent performance, but were unable to finish,” coach Grant Brubacher said.
Tabor recovered quickly from the early deficit, taking control of the ball and dictating play for the rest of the game.
The Bluejays' pressure and attack resulted in the equalizer as senior Andy Adrian put away a pass from freshman Robert Masson. Despite some great scoring chances, the Bluejays and Bulldogs were still tied at the end of regulation, and the score stayed knotted through two 10 minute overtime periods.
“We had enough chances to win the match,” Brubacher said. “But the late goal to get the draw leaves us in a good position in the conference standings.”
Junior Aaron Schmucker recorded seven saves as the Bluejays defense moved the team into second place in the conference standings.
Bethany—Tabor stayed undefeated despite a 1-0 halftime deficit. Robert Masson finished a pass from Liam Mclean, knotting the score 10 minutes into the second half.
Andy Adrian finished a tic-tac-toe passing play from Mclean and Marcos Bandiera in the 18th minute, and tacked on the 3-1 marker in the 39th.
Tabor dominated the midfield, developing 18 shots on goal and limiting the Swedes to eight.
Silas Hibbs had seven shots—five on goal—but was shutout in back-to-back games after registering five goals and two assists in the two previous games.
Coming—Tabor (2-0-1) visits Southwestern at 7 p.m. Wednesday, and travels to Ottawa for a 3 p.m. match Saturday.
