The Marion High School girls cross country team, creeping ever closer to full strength for the first time this season, placed sixth out of nine teams at Halstead Thursday.
“We were able to have a girls’ varsity team at Halstead,” coach Bethany Carlson said.
“However, our top two runners’ are not back at full strength. We hope to have them there in the next few weeks.”
Camille Christensen led the Warriors to the line, finishing 21st with a time of 17:48.
Christensen was followed by Jaclyn DeForest (22nd, 17:48), Anna Laurin (39th, 19:36), Bridget Lundy (42nd, 19:40), Taylor Harms (48th, 20:18), Jessie Taylor (51st, 20:31) and Amanda Richmond (52nd, 20:38).
“We were excited to see Bridget’s competitive side come out towards the end of the race,” Carlson said. “Taylor Harms also had a nice kick at the end of her race.”
The girls placed 14 points behind Douglass. The Marion boys placed seventh with 168 points, six back of Cheney.
For Marion, the boys were led by Ryan Jones, who placed seventh with a time of 18:01.
Jones was followed by Louis Holt (16th, 18:31), Andrew Shipman (27th, 19:22), Brandon Meierhoff (59th, 20:55), Derek Stuchlick (82nd, 22:56) and Max Wagner (83rd, 23:26).
“Ryan Jones had a better race this week,” Carlson said.
“Louis Holt picked up our only other varsity medal for the boys team and, unfortunately, Michael Kirkpatrick did not complete the race.”
Peabody-Burns placed third with 89 points and Canton-Galva placed 11th with 260 points.
But individual results had not been received from either school at press time.
Coming—Peabody-Burns and Marion both run at Chapman Thursday afternoon.
