The Tabor College volleyball team went 1-3 against non-conference competition at the Southern Nazarene Tournament in Oklahoma.

Friday in Bethany Okla., the Bluejays dropped matches to Southwestern Assemblies of God (18-25, 12-25, 18-25), and tournament host Southern Nazarene (18-25, 12-25, 24-26).

Sophomore Jordan Crosson pounded down 13 kills in two matches, while senior Audrey Schellenberg and freshmen Mandi Phillips both averaged four assists per game.

On Saturday, the Bluejays earned a split against Oklahoma City Univ., and Jarvis Christian. Playing at Oklahoma City, the Bluejays lost in three sets to OKC (21-25, 17-25, 15-25) before blasting Jarvis Christian (25-10, 25-15, 25-16).

Junior Ashley Cohlmia paced the Bluejay attack with 20 kills in six games, while senior Audrey Schellenberg set up 28 assists. Schellenberg also led Tabor defensively with 31⁄3 digs per game.

“We did not play like ourselves on Friday,” coach Amy Ratzlaff said. “We had illnesses on the team, and did not perform anywhere near our potential.”

“After a frustrating start, the team played much better on Saturday. They played tough two games against (Oklahoma City), and stayed disciplined in the Jarvis Christian match,” she noted. “We have four matches this week which will be a good time to take steps in the right direction.”

Coming—The Bluejays traveled to Winfield to take on a rejuvenated Southwestern squad at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Tabor (3-9) plays host to McPherson Thursday, with matches to begin at 6 p.m. The Bluejays wrap up a long week Saturday at Kansas Wesleyan, pairing off against the Coyotes in a conference match at 9 a.m., with a non-conference match against York College to follow at 11 a.m.
