The 2008 Canton-Galva volleyball seniors: back row (from left), Allie Enns, Kaitlyn Bressie, Kaitlin Dailey, Sabrina Brown; front row, Brooke Berg, Kelsey Goering, Carol Medley.

With six seniors and four returning starters, Canton-Galva coach Valerie Stout will have a strong core of volleyball players to work with in her first-year on the Eagles’ sidelines.

Letter-winners among the veterans include outside hitter Allie Enns, setter Kaitlyn Bressie and middle hitter Kaitlin Dailey.

Dailey, at 5-foot-11, is the team’s tallest player and junior hitter Brooke Berg also lettered last year.

“Allie Enns is a strong leader on this team,” Stout said. “Kaitlin Dailey is a very strong hitter, while Allie and Bressie both work especially hard.

“Allie Enns has an extremely strong hit and Kaitlyn Bressie is great at running the offense for this team,” she added.

Senior Sabrina Brown, sophomore Kimmy Voth and freshman Alyson Bressie all figure prominently in Stout’s plans.

“I’m a new coach, so I’m not sure what the rest of the league looks like,” Stout said. “But this group looks good together—they’ve played several years together, and club ball, and that makes a big difference.

“They’re also willing to work hard and to be pushed and they’re willing to put in 100 percent in practice, and that also makes a big difference,” she added.

Freshmen Brittany Leffler and Destiney Hett will also push for playing time, as will seniors Carol Medley and Kelsey Goering and junior Kris Larson.

“Carol will be a defensive specialist and Kelsey will be a hitter coming off the bench for us,” Stout said.

Stout expects the team to compete strongly in the Heart of America league, but knows it will not be easy.

“We’re in an extremely tough league,” she said. “We’ll have to be hustling to pick things up, which these girls seem to do. We have high hopes for them.”

In practice, Stout is working to instill three main values: 100 percent effort, respect and responsibility for the rest of the players and motivation.

“And they seem to be working very hard on all of those,” she said.
