Linda Ewert, 86

 

Linda Ewert, 86, homemaker, died Aug. 14 at Parkside Homes in Hillsbro.

The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Hills­boro Mennonite Brethren Church with pastors David Plett and Nadine Friesen officiating. Burial preceeded the service at 10 a.m.

She was born Aug. 4, 1922, to Jacob J. and Sara (Thiessen) Heinrichs at Hillsboro. On Aug. 3, 1951, she was married to Jacob D. Ewert, who predeceased her in 2000.

She is survived by three sons, Tom of Monrovia, Liberia, Paul of Hannibal, Mo., and Lyle of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Norma Tippin of Hillsboro, Sharon Jost of rural Hillsboro, Marlene Ewert of North Newton, and Carol Owens of Wichita; four brothers, Marvin Heinrichs and James Heinrichs, both of Reedley, Calif., Lester Heinrichs of Visalia, Calif., and Johnny Heinrichs of Dinuba, Calif.; three sisters, Adelia Tschiegg of Rickreall, Ore., Ruby Arduser of Laurel, Neb., and Lillian Harms of Bel Aire; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family received guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Peter Schmidt Jr.

 

Peter Schmidt Jr. died Sunday, Aug. 17. Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 22, at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.

Jost Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A full obituary will follow next week.

 

Kenneth Turner, 64

 

Kenneth Morris Turner, 64, of Canton, died Aug. 17 at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Canton Township Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 13, 1943, to Theodore and Madelyn (Reeder) Turner in Council Grove.

He is survived by five sisters, Maxine Wells of Yakima, Wash., Alberta Wright of Wichita, Velma Meyers of Nickerson, and Melba Gray and Vicki Holler, both of Galva.

A memorial has been established with the Canton Senior Center, in care of Olson’s Mortuary, P.O. Box 355, Canton, KS 67428.

 

Herman Unruh, 94

 

Herman H. Unruh, 94, retired Beech Aircraft employee, died Aug. 13.

The funeral was Aug. 16 at Aulne United Methodist Church. Burial was at Marion Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Aulne. In 1938, he was married to Iva Hett, who survives in Marion.

He is also survived by sons Dale and Phyllis of Peoria, Ill., and Keith and Betty of Wichita; daughter Donna and Clint Hoberecht of Woodinville, Wash.; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial fund has been established with Aulne United Methodist Church.

Alice Van Buren, 86

 

Alice Van Buren, 86, homemaker from Marion, died Aug. 12 at HCA Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The funeral was Aug. 15 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Burial was at the Marion Cemetery.

She was born Oct. 6, 1921, to Edward and Bessie (Shupert) Pilgrim in Bache, Okla. On March 21, 1946, she was married to L. Earl Van Buren, who predeceased her in 1983.

She is survived by son Roy and Cheryl of Hillsboro; daughters Anita and Roger Galbraith of Defiance, Ohio, Jan and Mike Erpelding of Crete, Neb., and Khrista and Rick Branson of Ashland; sister Wanda Baxter of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial funds have been established with Eastmoor UMC or St. Luke Foundation.

 

Titus Wingerd, 79

 

Titus M. Wingerd, 79, of Abilene, died Aug. 12 at Alterra Sterling House II in Abilene.

The funeral was Aug. 16 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Burial was at Rosebank Church Cemetery, rural Hope.

He was born May 18, 1929, to Asa and Ruth (Bowers) Wingerd. On Jan. 30, 1966, he was married to Mary Arlene Hess, who survives.

He is also survived by son Nelson and Janel Wingerd of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter Melinda and David Ridley of Belen, N.M.; four brothers, Dale of Ramona, Eldon of Ontario, Calif., Roy of Albuquerque, and Edgar of Westminster, Calif.; four sisters, Edna Hart of Upland, Calif., Cora Schultz of Northfield, Minn., Carol Hastings of Des Moines, Iowa, and Miriam Kruger of Ontario; and four grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established with His Way Ministries, in care of the funeral home.
