The view from the grandsons PDF Print E-mail

It has taken a decade to get to this day, but I have convinced my grandsons, Louis, 8, and Alex, 10, to share some of their impressions and observations of the Hillsboro scene.

They flew back to Atlanta last night but it’s been a great two weeks having them stay at our house. –JK

Well here’s a bummer, our mom told us there wasn’t a carnival right as we got off the plane. Do you how it feels to be let known that there’s not going to be a carnival at a bad time like 11:10 at night? –AC

n

The pool is pretty different than Atlanta. In Atlanta we don’t even have any diving boards let alone a giant water slide and fountains. –LC

n

For the past years that we have come to Hillsboro we haven’t known anybody here but this year we finally found some friends. Taylon and Kyle they both ride the same boards as us and Kyle fixed my board. –AC

n

Flies, how stupid could an animal be, they go after your food, you try to kill it—the fly flies away and it comes right back, SO STUPID. I bet they don’t even have a memory span. There were so many millions of flies at the farmers market on Thursday. –LC

n

We have a lot more freedom in Hillsboro than in Atlanta. In Atlanta we have to stay on the block and we have bad sidewalks/streets so we don’t have much room to ride our boards. In Hillsboro we have more room to ride our boards. –AC

n

At the fair we saw the bunnies, then we started begging our parents for a bunny. My brother started researching bunnies. Every night we have a different picture of a bunny. –LC

n

Well every time I come to Hillsboro everybody knows who we are, it gets kind of annoying. Since we’re writing a column in the newspaper it’s probably going to be worse next year. I’m not kidding, we went to the farmers market and about 5 people came up and said to my grandpa “oh these are the boys you write about in the paper” it happens about twenty times every year. It’s probably going to be thirty or forty people saying “you’re the boys that wrote IN the paper” next year. –AC

n

The demo derby was awesome…some car randomly caught on fire, it was so cool. There was a compact car derby, we were cheering for a guy named Lloyd Anderson. We got to meet Lloyd. –LC

n

We started planning a skate park with Kyle. We wanted a cool place to ride our boards. Kyle made a petition and he is trying to get people to sign it. We want it to be part of the sports complex. Eventually we’re going to take it to the mayor. Since we’re leaving he’ll have to do it with Taylon. We’re hoping that by next year they’ll have made some progress. –AC

n

As the boys were writing this column the price kept going up from the stipend we originally agreed upon. We know they like coming here and appreciate the benefits a relatively small town has to offer.

The word is that they will be back next summer. –JK
