Willis Ray Schmidt, 73, retired office manager for cooperatives in Lehigh, Hillsboro, Durham and Tampa, died July 16 at his residence in Newton.
A memorial services is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, Newton, with pastors Phil Fischer and Laney Kuhn officiating. A private family inumment will be at Johannestal Cemetery, rural Hillsboro.
He was born in 1934 to Herman and Susie (Unruh) Schmidt at Hillsboro. On Sept. 30, 1956, he was married to Marilyn Kay Halplain, who survives.
He also is survived by two daughters, Gayle Schmidt of Hutchinson and Carmen and husband Peter Kaufman of Newton; two brothers, Eldon and Howard, both of Hillsboro; a sister, Luella Bartel of McPherson; and three grandchildren.
Memorials have been established for Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and Hospice Care of Kansas; contributions may be sent in care of Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead.
