Zion Lutheran to host VBS July 14-18

 
Children are invited to join the Power Lab “Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power!” held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 14-18 at Zion Lutheran Church at Grand and Lincoln in Hillsboro.

The Vacation Bible School program is open to children ages 3 through those going into sixth grade.

To enroll, call 620-947-2244 by July 11.

 

Live music on tap for July 9 Lunch Bunch

 

Children and youth of the Hillsboro area are invited to enjoy a free meal and activities at this week’s Lunch Bunch on Wednesday, July 9.

The menu will be shot dogs, chips and ice cream bars. The Tabor College group i268 will provide music.

Lunch Bunch, sponsored for the second year by Main Street Ministries, is from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday through the first week of August at the MSM campus at Main and D streets, Hillsboro.

Child-care providers are welcomed to participate.

 

Movie matinees to play at library

 

The Marion City Library will host two Wednesday movie matinees beginning at 2:30 p.m., July 9 and July 16.

The movies are rated PG. Everyone is welcome to attend. Bring your pillows. Children under age 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

CDDO to meet July 21 in Newton

 

The Board of Directors of the Harvey-Marion County Community Developmental Disability Organization will meet at 4 p.m. Monday, July 21 in the Community Room in the basement of the Harvey County Courthouse.

The Harvey-Marion County CDDO Board meets regularly on the third Monday of the month. Each meeting includes opportunity for public forum.

 

Musical performance set for July 11

 

Thad Beach will demonstrate his “Band in a Bucket” at 7 p.m. Friday, July 11, at the Marion City Auditorium.

Beach will be performing “The Bug Juice Jamboree.” Enjoy the campfire at Camp Bugaboo for this musical program, featuring original songs such as “Ants in my Pants,” “There’s a Bug in my Ear,” There Ain’t No Bugs on Me,” plus more.

Expect to hear wacky stories and songs filled with hilarious predicaments and scenarios.

Beach will show his talent on the ukulele, guitar, harmonica, jaw harp and kazoo. His unusual band inspires young and old to get involved with musical devices such as the limberjack, washboard and bucket bass.

The public is invited to this free performance sponsored by Tampa State Bank and the Marion City Library.

Clint Seibel to speak at Kiwanis July 15

 

The Hillsboro Kiwanis Club will meet at noon Tuesday, July 15 at the city building. A $6 lunch will be provided by Vogts Hometown Market.

Following the lunch and a short business meeting, Clint Seibel will speak about his role as director for Hillsboro Ventures Inc. as well as other local business and economic issues.

‘Kids Night Out’ planned for July 18

 

Kids Night Out, sponsored by Parents as Advocates for Individuals with Disabilities, will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 18 at the Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church gym in Hillsboro.

The event, meant for special-needs children and their siblings age 2 and older, is being held as a respite evening for their regular caregivers.

Greenlee to present PEAK award July 15

 

The public is invited to the PEAK Award presentation at Parkside Homes Inc. at 2 p.m. July 15.

Kathy Greenlee, secretary of the Kansas Department of Aging, will be on campus to present the award, which marks achievements in the area of a culture change from institutional care to personalized care for the elderly.

Tours of the facility and refreshments will follow the presentation.

 

Salem Home requests garage sale items

 

The Activity Department at Salem Home is requesting donations for its monthly “Country General Store” garage sale.

Proceeds from the sale will go toward the purchase of a popcorn maker for the residents.

Donations such as clothing, jewelry and knick-knacks can be dropped off at Salem Home.

HHS band to have camp, car wash

 

Hillsboro High School band camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 21-23. Band camp is only for next year’s high school band members.

Participants should wear appropriate marching shoes. Contact Gregg Walker, 620-877-7027, if you cannot attend.

The HHS band will march in the Marion County Fair parade on July 23.

An HHS band car wash will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. July 22.
