Nellie Hill, a senior at Centre High School, received the $3,200 Marion County Agriculture Future of America Scholarship last week. Standing with her are Mike Padgett (left), representing Central National Bank, and Lyman Adams, representing Cooperative Grain & Supply, two of the four sponsoring agencies. Midland Farm Services of Marion and Agriculture Future of America, headquartered in Kansas City, Mo., are the other two co-sponsors. This is the ninth annual scholarship awarded to a graduating senior from Marion County. It is intended for students who are pursuing careers in agriculture-related industry. Hill, daughter of Kevin and Teresa Hill of rural Marion, plans to study agriculture education at Kansas State University. Applicants are required to have at least a 3.0 grade-point average, be willing to attend AFA’s Leadership Conference in fall, and pursue a four-year degree in agriculture. In addition to a personal interview, applicants are required to submit an essay on their vision for agriculture and agree to do a summer internship with CG&S following their freshman year in college.
