The Tabor College track and field outdoor nationals contingent grew by two at Bethany’s “last chance” meet Thursday.

Breanna Wray met qualifying standards in both hammer throw and shot put, while Jeff Harms qualified with a personal best high jump of 6 feet, 6 inches.

Wray’s hammer traveled 158-11 in the air and her shot carried 41-3.

Both will travel with a group that already included both the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams, javelin thrower Dana Champlin and sprinter Tasia Johnson on the women’s side.

Johnson qualified for the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.28 at the Friends Invitational April 5. Her time is the 20th best nationwide.

Champlin qualified with a throw of 129-7 at the Tabor Invitational April 16. Her mark is the 24th best in the NAIA.

The 4x400 relay unit—freshman Liz Kleinsasser, sophomores Kelli Kopper and Andrea Batista and senior Shelby Miller—posted its season-best time of 3:58.40 at Tabor’s home meet April 16. Theirs is the 26th-best time recorded this season. Tamara Steward, a freshman, will make the trip as an alternate.

The 4x800 unit—Kleinsasser, Kopper, Miller and seniors Heidi Schmidt and Amber Wiens (alternate)—set its season best at 9:26.79 at the conference championship meet May 2. Theirs is the seventh best mark nationwide.

Wray’s shot put mark is the 23rd best in the NAIA; her hammer throw is 10th.

Harms, a senior, and freshman Adam Dirks (javelin) will represent the men’s squad.

Harms’ mark is 23rd and Dirks’ javelin distance (186-9) is 20th.

Coming—Tabor will compete at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in St. Louis, Mo., May 22-24.
