LCP offers financial aid for livestock producers PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bill Harmon /Farm Service Agency

The Livestock Compensation Program is designed to financially assist those producers that experienced, in Marion County, losses due to drought in 2006.

If you owned or cash-leased livestock during this period and suffered a grazing or feed loss, you could be considered for compensation. A deadline date for enrollment under this program has not been announced, therefore qualifying producers may continue to apply.

National payment rates for eligible livestock types are as follows: adult beef cattle, $10.66 per head; adult dairy cattle, $27.72 per head; beef/dairy at 500 pounds or more on Jan. 1, $8 per head; sheep and goats, any weight, $2.67 per head.

All claimed livestock must be for commercial purposes to be eligible. Also, if a producer receives LCP payment and they participated in the Livestock Assistance Grant Program administered by the Kansas State Department of Agriculture, their benefits will be reduced by the amount of assistance they received.

To apply, producers must report or submit purchased livestock records, written pasture leases, and feed-cost invoices as well as being prepared to answer specific questions relating to their livestock operation.

Once this information is compiles, producers can call the county office at 620-382-3714 to schedule an appointment.

Bill Harmon is executive director of the Marion County FSA office.
