Unified School District 410 Board of Education dealt with personnel issues at Monday evening’s special meeting at the district offices in the basement of Emprise Bank.

After 30 minutes in executive session, the board approved resignations from: Tonya Bartel, Parent as Teachers parent educator; Sharon Jost, Hillsboro Elementary School Title I aide; Daniel Lundberg, HES physical education instructor; Gregg Walker, instrumental music instructor with a 20-day extended contract; and Charles Jones, district technology coordinator, effective April 18.

Superintendent Doug Huxman said in a few days the district will begin advertising to fill the technology director position.

The board also approved intent of contract nonrenewal for Micky Harvey, Hillsboro Middle School technology instructor, and Claire Overstake, fifth-grade teacher.

The board also approved employing Ronda Suderman-King as PAT educator, Sharon Jost as full-time HES teacher aide, Gregg Walker as district instrumental music director with a 10-day extended contract and Robert Rempel as USD 410 activities director.

With no action taken, Sonya Roberts, HHS vocational agriculture instructor, and Keli Chisholm, HES first-grade and preschool teacher, will be granted tenure with the upcoming school year.

In other business, the board briefly discussed a request from the Florence Labor Day Committee to use the district’s mobile bleachers. A decision will be made at another time.

Huxman also reported receiving a bid of $18,520 from Coonrod Construction for removing asphalt and paving the circle drive at the elementary school with 8-inch asphalt.

The board met in executive session to discuss teacher- contract negotiations.

Board member Brent Barkman was absent from the meeting.
