With the bulk of the squad facing top-shelf 3-4A competition in Beloit Friday, the Marion High School track teams managed four first-place finishes. At the forefront of the Warriors scorers on the girls side were Kalaya Jackson and Julia Zeiner, who placed first in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.

The boys also struck gold in the triple jump, as Tylor Neil notched a mark of 40-51⁄2 in the event.

The Warriors 4x800 meter relay continued to excel, with a first-place time of 8:46.28 on the strength of a 2:09 third leg by Ryan Jones. Adam Regnier, Charlie Holub and Justin Heidebrecht took care of the rest of the race.

Heidebrecht (2:05.2) claimed second place in the individual 800. Jones (4:51.8) placed third in the 1,600 and Holub (11:03.3) placed fourth in the 3,200.

Nick Klenda (150-6) placed second in the discus throw and Sheldon Boone (143-2) placed fourth in the javelin. Brady Hudson (5-6) placed third in the high jump and Elliot Hett (16.59) placed second in the 110 hurdles.

Brad Klenda (11-1) placed fourth in the pole vault.

The 4x400 relay of Brett Billings, James Wingfield, Neil and Heidebrecht (3:42.0) placed sixth.

On the girls side, Jackson’s first-place long jump went for 16-3 and Zeiner’s first-place triple jump went for 35-111⁄2.

The Warriors had seven other top-5 finishes.

Kimber Hardey placed fifth in the discus (106-1) and fifth in the shot put (32-3).

Zeiner (14-031⁄2) placed fourth in the long jump, second in the pole vault (8-6) and anchored a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay (52.01)—Kayley Heerey, Jackson and Kristen Steinborn ran the other three legs.

Steinborn placed fourth individually in the 200 (28.47) and anchored a fourth-place 4x400 (4:32.08) that included Amanda Richmond, Danae Edwards, and Heerey.

Camille Christensen placed fifth in the 3,200 (13:02.1).

Moundridge CKTL—Kimber Hardey won the shot put with a toss of 32-7 and placed second in the discus with a throw of 86-10.

Amara Prescott placed third in the javelin (87-5) and Emma Hett turned in fourth-place throws in both shot (27-5) and discus (78-11).

Emily Hett placed fourth in high jump (4-4).

The Warrior boys had two first-place throws and three third-place relays.

Nick Klenda won the shot put with a throw of 41-111⁄2 and Sheldon Boone threw the javelin a first-place distance of 148-1.

Parker Ash placed second in shot (41-3) and Doug Schroeder placed fourth (39-5). Hector Cardenas placed third in javelin (118-7).

Boone, Ash, Matt Thierolf and Klenda placed third in the 4x100 (58.7). Dillon Richmond, Colin Eurit, Les Riggs and Randy Regnier placed third in 4x400 (4:18.6).

Michael Kirkpatrick, Brandon Meierhoff, Andy Shipman and Regnier placed third in the 4x800 (10:23).

Coming—Marion will compete at Hesston on Thursday with events starting at 4 p.m. The Trojans’ next meet will be the MCAA league meet at Smoky Valley on Friday, May 9.
