Hillsboro overcame an early 6-2 deficit Friday at Lyons to beat the home team 8-6 and claim a sweep of their doubleheader.

The Trojans won the first game 4-2 behind the complete-game pitchng of Isaac Leihy.

The sweep capped a 4-0 week and boosted the surprising Trojans to a 9-5 record.

In Game 2 against the Lions, Trojan starter Jacob Edwards struggled on the mound. He gave up a run in the opening inning, thanks to a couple of Trojan errors, and shut out the home team in the second inning.

But in the third inning, he walked the first two hitters, then surrended three consecutive hits before Tyler Ediger relieved him with no outs. One more HHS error contributed to a five-run surge and a 6-2 Lyons lead.

But Hillsboro came right back with four runs in the tip of the fourth Isaac Leihy led off with a single. One out later, Aaron Bina was hit by a pitch and Mitchell Koop walked. Dylan Delk and Chris Couts followed with run-scoring singles.

The Trojans scored what proved to be the winning runs in the next inning. Leihy led off with a walk and eventually scored on a sacrifice by Bina. Koop followed with another walk and scored on a Lyons error.

Ediger was brilliant in relief, surrendering only one hit through five innings. He struck out four on the way to his first decision of the season.

Leihy went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs socred to pace Hillsboro. The Trojans managed only five hits in the contest, but benefitted from three walks, a hit batter and four Lion errors.

In Game 1, Hillsboro trailed 2-1 through four innings, but rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth. After Edwards reached on a fielder’s choice for the second out of the inning, Bina doubled to put runners on second and third. Daniel Jost brought them both home with a single and then Leihy chased Jost home with a single.

That was all the run support Leihy needed. The junior finished the game with three shutout innings, including five of his eight strikeouts, to improve to 3-1 for the year.

Leihy was again the only Trojan to have more than one hit in the contest. He went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jost, leading the team with a .500 batting average, reached base all four at-bats, drawing three walks in addition to his key single in the fifth.

Little River—Hillsboro took advantage of some erratic pitching by Little River to post a couple of easy wins Tuesday, April 22, at Memorial Field.

In Game 1, the Trojans combined six hits with five walks and six hit batters for a 15-0 win that lasted three innings because of the run-rule.

In Game 2, 11 walks, three hit batters and five wild pitches helped the Trojans to a 14-1 victory in five innings.

In the opener, Hillsboro took charge in the first inning with a 10-run burst—on only two base hits, including a two-run triple by Daniel Jost in his second at-bat of the inning.

Meanwhile, Jacob Fish and Ethan Frantz combined on the mound for a two-hitter. Fish (1-2) threw the first two innings to pick up his first victory. He allowed both hits while walking one and striking out one.

In game 2, Hillsboro broke loose for 12 runs in the opening inning—again, on two base hits.

Tyler Ediger, who was 2-for-2 in Game 1, finished a perfect day at the plate with a 2-for-2 effort in the nightcap, driving in three runs and scoring twice.

Freshman Dylan Delk (3-0) threw all five innings for HHS, allowing only one hit. He struck out five batters, walked two and plunked three.

Coming—Hillsboro will play host to Marion for a doubleheader on Friday. The first game at Memorial Field begins at 4:30 p.m. The following Tuesday, the Trojans complete the regular season with a doubleheader against Haven.
