Hillsboro ripped Hoisington for 28 runs on 28 hits last Tuesday, sweeping both ends of their doubleheader, 17-11 and 11-4, at the Sports Complex.

The Trojans scored nine runs in the first two innings of Game 1 to jump to an early 9-1 lead. Hoisington, aided by five hits and two Trojan errors, erupted for five runs against pitcher Jenesa Klose, to make the score 10-5 through 41⁄2 innings.

But Hillsboro bounced back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the game to a six-inning, run-rule victory.

Senior Jessica Klose had the best hitting game of her career, going 4-for-4 with four runs driven in and four runs scored. Suzi Lindsay, Amanda Bina and Taylor Nikkel each chipped in three hits as Hillsboro rolled up a season-high 17 hits as a team.

Meanwhile, Jenesa Klose (6-3) struck out one and walked one while surrendering seven hits to the Cardinals.

“We played well considering the wind,” coach Stephanie Sinclair said. “The fifth inning was not too appealing—we committed our only two errors, back to back.”

In Game 2, the visitors jumped on Jenesa Klose for two runs in the first inning, but Hillsboro came right back with three in its first at-bat, including Bina’s second over-the-fence home run of the season, which brought home two runs.

Hoisington tied the game in the top of the second, but Hillsboro came back with a run in the bottom of the second, two more in the third and then broke open the game with three runs in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead.

Bina carried the biggest stick for Hillsboro in the nightcap, going 5-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Her 8-for-10 day raised her season average to .590.

Jenesa Klose finished with a six-hitter, striking out five Cardinals, walking two and surrendering only two earned runs to raise her personal and team records to 7-3 for the season.

“These were must wins for us, and the girls got the job done,” Sinclair said.

Coming—With a day off last Friday, HHS was scheduled to host Sterling on Tuesday. The Trojans will travel to Lyons on Friday for a doubleheader that begins at 4:30 p.m.

The Trojans are back at home next Tuesday against Hesston. Action begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Sports Complex.
