Melvin and Norma (Wiens) Hiebert of North Newton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 22 with a family dinner at the home of their daughter, Nancy and Bruce Funk, North Newton.
Also attending were grandchildren Michael Funk of Fort Collins, Colo., and Gena and Adam Breker of Wichita.
The Hieberts were married April 2, 1958, at the Goessel Mennonite Church. After the wedding, they lived in Bloomington, Ill., for two years before moving to the Goessel/Hillsboro area to run a dairy farm.
They were dairy farmers until 1984 when Melvin was paralyzed after a farm accident. They moved to North Newton in 1986 where Norma worked at Prairie View Food Services. She recently retired after 21 years.
Unruhs to mark their 50th anniversary
A reception in honor of Howard and Esther Unruh’s 50th wedding anniversary will be hosted by their children from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at the Agape Senior Center in Goessel.
The couple married Jan. 18, 1958, at Tabor Mennonite Church. They now live in Goessel.
Their children are Tom Unruh and Jill White of Newton, John and Elaine Unruh of Goessel, Fred and Diane Unruh of Goessel, and Bill and Sherry Unruh of Walton. They have seven grandchildren.
The couple requests no gifts.
