Service volunteers Betty and Don Fruechting will present “Patching, Painting and Other Projects with Purpose” at the 60+ Learning in Retirement Program, at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, in the Wohlgemuth Music Education Center at Tabor College.

The Fruechtings have been volunteering with the United Methodist group RV Volunteers in Mission since 2002, traveling throughout the country in a recreational vehicle, spending weeks at a time refurbishing churches, youth centers, camps and other facilities.

Some years the Fruechtings have traveled more than 10,000 miles.

“It really gives us a purpose,” Don Freuchting said. “We see ourselves contributing to society.”

Don was born and raised in the Aulne area, where he was a long-time farmer. Betty attended high school in Hillsboro and graduated from Tabor College in 1974. She is a retired special education teacher.

Having both survived their spouses of many years, Betty and Don were married in 1999. They live at Marion County Lake.

The public is welcome to attend all Learning in Retirement programs. Fees are $3 per session or $15 per semester ($28 per couple).

Registration and discount cards for lunch in the cafeteria will be available at the door during the half hour before the meeting.
