Dylan Carpenter holds the certificate and patch he received March 4 from the James William Meisse Post 22 American Legion Riders making him an honorary member of Post 22 for the 2007-8 year. Pictured with him are (from left) his grandfather, Gerald Carpenter of Cedar Point, and his parents, Diane and Todd Carpenter of Marion. Dylan received the recognition for his involvement and support of U.S. military troops and their families, and also for his support of the Kansas American Legion Riders. Dylan has been present or taken part in local send-offs, homecomings and many Kansas KIA missions along with his parents or grandfather. Dylan is currently a Sons of the American Legion of Post 22 in Marion. The services provided by the American Legion Riders for homecoming, send-offs and KIA missions can be requested from Gary Chaput, director of ALR Post 22, at 620-382-2754. American Legion Post 22 and Post 366 in Hillsboro will send care packages to U.S. troops each month. Anyone who has a current address for someone serving overseas can ask that a care package be sent to that person by calling Karen or Gary Chaput at the above number. The James William Meisse Post 22 Auxiliary was chartered Feb. 26 with 11 new members and five transfers and Karen Chaput as president; the Sons of the American Legion was charted the same day with 10 new members and three transfers and with Todd Carpenter as commander.
