Tabor baseball ups record to 4-7 with a pair of doubleheader splits

The Tabor College baseball team improved to 4-7 with splits against both Mid-America Nazarene and Waldorf.
Mid-America Nazarene—The Bluejays toppled MANU 5-0 in the opening game of a double-header Friday. Tyler Suderman posted seven scoreless innings in a complete game shutout, recording eight strikeouts in the process of picking up his first win against two losses.
Chris Brown was the offensive hero, with a homer and a double in three at bats.
Leading 1-0 through two innings, Tabor scored three in the third and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.
MANU won the second game 3-2 in 11 innings. Tabor pitcher Travis Schafer fell to 0-2 with the decision. Alfred Wilson and Ryan Boucher combined for five of Tabor’s nine hits, with Wilson driving in a run and Boucher scoring one.
Waldorf—Tabor’s offense took the opener in support of Andrew Cook, who won his second decision of the year 14-12. Travis Schafer notched his first save. Trailing 5-2 after two innings, the Bluejay offense erupted for a dozen runs during the next 12 outs.
Alfred Wilson, Jordan Lago and Dustin Dick sparked the outburst. Wilson finished 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI to his credit. Lago also hammered out three hits—two went for doubles—and drove in five runs. Dick had four hits in four appearances, with three RBI and a stolen base to boot.
Waldorf got the better of the second game, with a six-run fifth in the 14-9 final score.
Tabor trailed 4-2 after the first inning, but notched two runs in both the second and third innings to knot the game at 6-6. After a scoreless fourth, Waldorf blew open the game, adding single runs in the sixth and seventh.
Clayton Kessler recorded 14 outs but allowed 10 runs—only three were earned—on 10 hits and three walks. Kessler (0-2) struck out five.
Tyler Sizemore banged out a home run and went 3-for-3, with two RBI and a stolen base. Chris Brown—who leads the team with 12 hits in 23 at bats (.522) so far—also homered in the contest.
Coming—Tabor visited Mid-America Nazarene again Tuesday, with William Jewell slated for a doubleheader today at 1 p.m. Tabor also has a double-header at Central Christian, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in McPherson.
