The Hillsboro girls got 20 points from Dakota Kaufman and 17 from Amy Neufeld on the way to a 58-28 victory.

The Trojans got off to a fast start, leading 14-3 after one quarter, then bumped the margin to 29-9 at intermission.

The two teams actually played to a 16-16 standoff through the third quarter, then Hillsboro limited the visitors to 3 points in the final quarter and inflated the lead to 30 points with 44 seconds to go to start the continuous clock.

Hillsboro improves to 9-10 for the season and 6-4 in league play with the victory. Lyons, which started four freshmen Tuesday, still has a single victory for the year.

The boys’ game reached a similar outcome. Hillsboro hit three straight 3-pointers in a little over 2:00 to take a 9-0 lead. Lyons rallied to end the quarter with a 3-point deficit, 19-16, but a 16-1 second quarter by Hillsboro blew the game open by halftime. Clay Shewey had 18 points by intermission.

The score was 56-31 after three quarters and HHS reached the 30-point barrier when David Loewen scored in the paint with 4:12 to play in the final period.

Shewey finished with 23 points to pace Hillsboro, who improves to 11-8 overall and 7-3 in the MCAA with the win. Daniel Jost added 12 points.
