Primary required for city council race in Marion

The city of Marion will have have a primary election Feb. 26 to narrow the field of candidates for two city council seat from five to four.
The two incumbents, Jerry Kline and Bill Holdeman, will be opposed by Katherine DeFillips, Steve Smith and Gerry Henderson for the two at-large seats.
In Hillsboro, incumbent Shelby Dirks will be on the ballot for Ward 1. In Ward 2, Byron McCarty, the incumbent will be opposed by Martin Rhodes in the upcoming election.
City council seats for both Hillsboro and Marion will be decided in the April 2 local election.
Meanwhile, no one had filed for offices at the county and state levels. The filing deadline for those offices is noon Tuesday, June 10.
