An 88-46 loss to Northern Heights capped off a busy week of basketball played by Cody Schafer’s squad.
The Cougars lost to Word of Life 65-59 after carrying a 47-41 lead
into the fourth quarter on Jan. 7. James Weber scored 20 points in the
game.
Centre turned around and pasted Hope 77-45 the following night. Trevor Troutt scored 18 points, and Zach Slayden and Weber each had 17.
The game of the week was a 58-54 overtime triller against Herington. The score was tied at 48-48 after regulation, and Slayden tipped the final score in the Cougars’ favor with 5 points during a 10-6 run in overtime.
Slayden and Troutt each scored 15 points against the Railers.
Centre played Hope again at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Centre High School. The Cougars will face Wakefield at 8:30 Friday at home.
The Eisenhower league tournament will conclude Saturday at CHS. The fifth place game will be played at 2:30 in the new gym, concurrent with the third place game to be played in the main gym. The boys championship game will be played at 5:30 in the main gym.
Canton-Galva
The Eagle boys lost to Inman 49-44 after falling into a 23-17 halftime hole. Destin Nightengale scored 10 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter of the loss.
The Eagles host the 34th annual Canton-Galva Invitational this week. Their first game was played Tuesday against Rock Creek.
The second-seeded Eagles will face either Sedgwick or Remington Thursday. A first-round loss would mean a 4:45 p.m. tipoff in the second round. A win would mean an 8:15 tip-time.
The championship game will be played at 8:15 p.m. Friday. The third place game will be played at 6:30, and will be preceeded by the fifth- and seventh-place games.
Goessel
Friday’s 58-54 win in double-overtime against Bennington gave the Bluebirds a boost heading into the Burrton Tournament.
“It came down to defensive stops,” coach Justin Coup said. “We must learn to finish at the free throw line in order to win big ball games. We got lucky tonight.”
The game was knotted at 47-47 at the end of four quarters. It was tied at 52-52 after the first overtime.
Goessel played Fairfield Monday night, with the winner advancing to play the winner of Monday’s meeting between Little River and Central Christian at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Monday’s losers will meet at 3 p.m.
Peabody Burns
is also playing in the Burrton tournament. The Warriors faced Berean Academy at 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner advancing to play the winner of Tuesday’s meeting between Pretty Prairie and Burrton at 8 p.m. Thursday. Tuesday’s losers will meet at 4:45.
The seventh-place game will be played at 3 p.m. Saturday, with the fifth-place game to follow at 4:45, third place at 6:15 and the champion at 8.
