Once more we citizens of Marion County owe a huge debt of gratitude to the utility crews and emergency responders who gave so much time and energy to help our communities recover from power outages during last week’s ice storm. True, they were compensated for their efforts, but working long hours in cold weather and away from family and friends is a less than desireable gig.
It’s hard to believe the ice storm of 2005, similar to this one in so many ways, occurred almost three years ago. But we remember the sacrifices our civil servants made then on our behalf, and we are equally appreciative now. We trust that all county residents still without power will join our chorus of praise once the job is completed. —DR

Thankful Citizen
I whole heartedly agree with Don's editorial in last weeks HFP! It has been a humbling experience to see so many work so hard for so few in the rural areas of Marion County. I don't think we even realize how many are working "behind the scenes" to make sure that the lineman could do their job. The local electricians that worked tirelessly to get electricity from the pole to the house, road crews that cleaned off the roads, the people that packed lunches for crews, the sheriff's dept. checking up on rural citizens that might need assistance, and of course, the lineman themselves that came from all different areas of the country (during the holiday season) to help us out. To all of those I missed mentioning----we thank you!
