Gene Costello, 87, retired farmer, died Dec. 13 at the Golden Living Center in Marion.
A Rosary was held Dec. 16 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Marion.
The funeral was held Dec. 17 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He was buried at the Tampa Catholic Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Tampa. In 1957, he was married to Betty Buser, who predeceased him.
He is survived by his sons, Jim Costello of Colwich, Tom Costello of Garden Plain, and Dan Costello of Washington D.C.; his daughters, Sharon Gutsch of Lincolnville, and Jane Dodds of Lenexa; a brother, Ed Costello of Marion; sisters, Anna Marie Bergkamp of Pretty Prairie, Catherine Hajek of Tampa, Rosemary Lewis of Wichita, and Florence Scanlan of Laguna Hills, Calif.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial fund has been established with the Maintenance Fund of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Tampa in care of Zeiner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 6, Marion, KS 66861.

Gerald Davis, 78
Gerald Lloyd Davis, 78, janitor, died Dec. 15 in Hillsboro.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Alexanderfeld Mennonite Church, rural Hillsboro.
He will be buried at Alexanderfeld Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 18 at Alexanderfeld Mennonite Church.
He was born Nov. 4, 1929, to Robert Davis and Elsie Marie Jantzen Davis in Protection. On Jan. 25, 1948, he was married to Eva Elizabeth Giesbrecht, who predeceased him in 2006.
He is survived by three sons, Harold Davis of McPherson, Roy Davis of Durham, and Leland Davis of Inez, Texas; a brother, Don Davis of Sandpoint, Idaho; two sisters, Della Nichols of Winton, Calif., and Ethel Steiner of Moundridge; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established with Hope Valley Christian School.
Wayne Engler, 88
Wayne S. Engler, 88, of Auburn, farmer, DeKalb Seed salesman and insurance agent for Patrons Mutual, died Dec. 12 at Brookside Manor in Overbrook.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Auburn Presbyterian Church.
He will be buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 27, 1919, to August F. and Mabel Shivley Engler in rural Shawnee County. On Aug. 3, 1945, he was married to Patricia A. Dietrich, who predeceased him in 1982. On Aug. 11, 1986, he was married to Marno McKaughan, who survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Jerry W. and Belinda Engler of Marion, and Greg R. Engler of Salina; three step-daughters, Marlene and Bob Morrow of Angel Fire, N.M., Miadell McKaughan and husband Michael Roca of Eagar, Ariz., and Margie and Chuck Davis of Edgerton; a brother, Glen Engler of Auburn; three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and 13 step-great- grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established with Auburn Presbyterian Church.
‘Bud’ Pierce, 82
W. M. “Bud” Pierce, 82, owner and operator of Pierce Oil and Fertilizer Co., died Dec. 13 in Marion.
The funeral was held Dec. 18 at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion. He was buried during a private inurement.
He was born Dec. 21, 1924, to Milo E. and Clara R. (Grimes) Pierce in Marion. On June 2, 1946, he was married to Wilma Jean Knight, who survives in Marion.
He is also survived by a brother, Harry Pierce of Wichita, and a sister, Elaine Mauck of Manchester, Conn.

Lillian Stenzel, 80
Lillian Criger Heidel Stenzel, 80, employee at Hehr Manufac-turing in Newton, died Dec. 9 at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.
The funeral was Dec. 15 at Valley United Methodist Church in Marion.
She was born Dec. 11, 1926, to David and Anna Graff Criger in Potwin. On Jan. 13, 1951, she was married to George C. Heidel, deceased. On Aug. 5, 1990, she was married to Charles Stenzel, who predeceased her.
She is survived by a companion, Henry “Hank” Sklenar; a son, Larry Heidel of Hillsboro; four daughters, Sarah Stroede of Salina, Yvonne Sauber of Ellinwood, Debbie Craig of Marion, and Norma Druse of Marion; a brother Arthur Criger of Pueblo, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established with St. Luke Living Center of Marion.
