Area girls' teams find the going tough in season openers

Goessel
The Bluebirds lost their season opener 47-26 Friday at Remington. A
12-4 Bronco run in the first quarter had Goessel playing from behind
all night.
Jennifer Raymond, Aspen Frey and Karina Harvey each
scored in the second quarter, and the Bluebirds matched the Remington
total in the frame making 18-10 the halftime score.
Goessel managed five points in the third against a 21-point outburst in the third quarter.
The Bluebirds, led by seven from Raymond, outscored Remington 11-8 in the fourth quarter.
Raymond led the Bluebirds with 11 points.
Goessel hosted Elyria Christian on Tuesday, and next on the Goessel schedule are Veritas Christian Friday in Goessel, and Burrton on Saturday at home.
Canton-Galva
The Eagles jumped out to a 28-20 halftime lead over Little River, but were unable to hold off the Redskins in the second half of Friday’s 47-40 loss.
Canton-Galva put three into double digits: Kaitlyn Bressie led the way with 17, followed by 11 from Allison Enns and 10 from Kylie Haines.
Little River spread its scoring across a wider cross-section of its roster, and seven different players etched their names on the scoresheet.
The Eagles faced Central Christian Tuesday in Hutch as part of the McDonald’s Challenge. Next up are matches with Fairfield and Cunningham, slated for Dec. 7 and 8, respectively.
Peabody-Burns
The Inman Teutons hammered the Warriors 51-19, with the vast bulk of the PBHS highlights coming in an 8-point second quarter.
Lindsey Wedel led Peabody-Burns with six points.
PBHS visited Pretty Prairie Tuesday. Next up for the Warriors is a home contest against Oxford at 6 p.m. Friday. The Warriors visit Berean Saturday.
Centre—Centre faced Southeast of Saline, but results were not provided before press time.
The Cougars played the first of three tournament games Tuesday at Herington, with two more to follow Friday and Saturday.
