Goessel vs. Centre

The Bluebirds defeated the Cougars convincingly, 58-0, Thursday at home.

Goessel scored early and often, beginning with a 16-yard pass from Austin Unruh to Kendall Voth that provided the only score GHS would need.

Travis Fensky scored on a 5-yard run and a punt return in the opening period, and Dustin Peterson added a 1-yard run.

After Fensky’s punt return, he converted the first of Goessel’s five consecutive points-after-touchdown, and the Bluebirds led 26-0 at intermission.

Unruh opened the second half with a 23-yard run, and Craig Banman added the 2-point conversion.

Voth then caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Unruh, who threw to Banman for the point-after.

Fensky scored his second rushing touchdown of the night from a yard out, with Unruh throwing to Voth for the conversion.

Unruh broke a 30-yard run to cap the scoring, and Kurtis Duerksen added a 2-point conversion.

Goessel finished with 276 total yards—158 rushing, 118 passing.

Highlights for Centre were few, but included a 23-yard kickoff return by Zach Slayden and a 22-yard pass from Ben Krause to Trevor Troutt.

The Cougars finished with 4 yards of total offense in their season finale.

Goessel (8-1) was to face Pretty Prairie (8-1) in bi-district play on Tuesday with an opportunity to take on the winner of Jetmore (9-0) and Pawnee Heights (7-2) on Saturday.

Canton-Galva

The Eagles thrashed Herington 55-21.

Andrew Westbrook carried 17 times for 151 yards, Bryant Baldwin carried seven times for 74 yards and Tony Arendt gained 72 yards on five carries. Ted Regehr went 3-for-4 passing for 95 yards.

CGHS outscored the visitors 21-0 in the first quarter and opened the gap to 41-8 by halftime.

Canton-Galva (4-5) had a bi-district date with Olpe (6-3) on Tuesday, with the winner advancing to face Pittsburg Colgan (9-0) or Sedan (5-4) on Saturday.

The Warriors absorbed a 14-10 loss at Olpe on Thursday.

PBHS (7-2) nevertheless earned a bi-district date with Solomon (6-3) on Tuesday. The winner advances to play on Saturday against the victor of West Elk (6-3) vs. Humboldt (8-1).
