Kleinsasser runs 8th at NAIA Mid-States race PDF Print E-mail

Tabor College freshman Liz Kleinsasser placed eighth among 210 finishers Saturday at the NAIA Mid-States Classic at Southwestern.

Kleinsasser turned in a personal-record-tying 5-kilometer time of 19 minutes, 16 seconds and led the Bluejays to 14th place among 31 competing teams.

“Liz ran an outstanding race and, on this day, was the first conference runner to cross the finish line,” coach Karol Hunt said. “Her performance was especially satisfying because eighth is the highest finish we have had at this meet.”

Following her were Heidi Schmidt (48th, 20:30), Amber Wiens (101st, 21:24), and Jera Teselle (111th, 21:41), Ashley Schmidt (139th, 22:21), Leah Kopper (147th, 22:36), Shelby Miller (159th, 23:06), Carrie Schroeder (161st, 23:13), Tasheena Ruzinsky (179th, 23:49), Tessa Siebert (180th, 23:50) and Elissa Richert (189th, 24:46).

“It was positive to have Amber back racing,” Hunt said. “Her experience is invaluable to us.”

Hunt said the day included an additional challenge for the women, as the lead pack inadvertantly cut the course, leading to a stoppage and a restart following the men’s race.

“The women actually ended up running an extra mile in race mode,” she said. “We rose to the challenge in good fashion.”

The Bluejay men placed 20th out of 30 teams. With 31 colleges competing, the meet is a smaller version of the NAIA national meet.

Among 234 runners, Zac Remboldt led Tabor, finishing 111th in 29:22.

He was followed by Justin Ball (115th, 29:29), Caleb Schroeder (156th, 30:21), Adam McPeck (193rd, 31:43), (203rd, 32:20), Michael Adamyk (222nd, 35:05), Warren McKamey (228th, 38:10) and Nathan Adamyk (233rd, 41:04).

“This was our final tune-up before the conference meet,” Hunt said. “We performed well today.”

Coming—Tabor hosts the KCAC meet Saturday at Cottonwood Point at Marion Reservoir. The women run at 10:30 a.m. and the men at 11:15.
