Goessel

The Bluebirds pasted Sunrise Christian Academy, 58-8, in Wichita.

The usual suspects did the damage on Friday, with Craig Banman scoring touchdowns on both offense and defense—first, a 35-yard fumble return and then a 28-yard run.

Travis Fensky scored three times: on a 4-yard run, a 13-yard pass from Austin Unruh and a 45-yard run. He finished with six carries for 94 yards.

Dustin Peterson scored on runs of 2 yards and 4 yards, and finished with six carries for 50 yards.

Austin Unruh opened the scoring for Goessel with a 10-yard run, and finished 5-for-9 for 40 yards passing.

Goessel has posted at least 50 points in every game since Sept. 14, when it defeated Wichita Trinity 46-0.

GHS visits Claflin on Friday. The Bluebirds were the only team to beat the Wildcats in regular season play a year ago, and by a 60-30 margin. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Canton-Galva

The Eagles lost at St. John on Friday, 26-6.

CGHS grabbed a 6-0 lead on a 2-yard run by Ted Regehr in the second quarter. But St. John countered with a 62-yard touchdown run before halftime.

CGHS will play at Solomon this Friday.

Centre

The Cougars lost a hard-fought contest at Burrton on Friday, 42-40.

Brandon Albrecht and Bryant Brunner scored touchdowns in the first quarter to give Centre a 14-0 lead.

Burrton struck back with a 55-yard touchdown pass, but Centre countered midway through the second period when Brunner hit Ben Krause for a 14-yard touchdown.

Touchdown by Brunner made it 28-8 early in the third period.

Burrton then scored three straight touchdowns to close out the third quarter and open the fourth. Two failed 2-point conversions and a successful one tied the game at 28-28 with 4:59 to go.

Then the floodgates opened. Brunner found Krause for a 17-yard score at 2:15 and Burrton countered at 1:38. Centre’s conversion misfired, but Burrton’s rang true, making it 36-34 with just over a minute to go.

Burrton returned an interception for a touchdown with 1:02 left, taking a 42-34 lead. But Burrton failed on the conversion and left the door open for Centre to tie.

Krause drilled a 33-yard pass to freshman Brian Burhoop, who scored Centre’s 40th point with 8 seconds left. On the 2-point try, the run for the equalizer came up short and Burrton prevailed .

Centre plays Little River at home on Friday.
