Abilene High School senior Gina Hullet has signed letters of intent to play basketball and volleyball next year for Tabor College.

The versatile athlete currently is leading the Cowgirls’ volleyball team toward another berth in the Class 4A state tournament.

“I am ecstatic to have Gina join our program,” said Amy Ratzlaff, Tabor volleyball coach. “She is certainly an impact player on her team, which has proven itself to be a very solid and competitive volleyball program. Not only will Gina bring a big dose of height, athleticism and talent to the program, but her team spirit will be an asset as well.”

Last season, Gina led Abilene to the North Central Kansas League volleyball championship and a runner-up finish at sub-state, earning all-league and all-state honorable-mention honors.

“Gina is a player who is passionate about playing with excellence and knows what that looks like on the court,” Ratzlaff said. “She also knows how to work hard and commit to her team.”

Hullett also earned all-league and all-state honorable-mention honors in basketball. The 6-foot center led her team to a 20-4 record, including league and sub-state championships.

“Gina is coming from a program that has had a lot of success recently and (she) is looking to have a great senior season,” said Shawn Winter, women’s basketball coach at Tabor. “Gina will bring with her a very competitive spirit and a coachable attitude.”

In addition to her successes in basketball and volleyball, Gina was a state power-lifting champion as a sophomore and placed second as a freshman.

“Gina is very well skilled for her size, which will allow her to be very versatile in college,” Winter said. “Her skill set, combined with her athletic ability, will give her the opportunity to make an immediate impact on our basketball team.”
