Aaron Topham led the Warrior boys to a first place finish in a field with Class 3A and 4A competitors Thursday at Hal­stead.

Led by Topham’s third-place time of 18 minutes, 40 seconds, PBHS totaled 60 points to edge 3A Lyons (64) and 4A Circle (72).

Strong finishes by Duane Unruh (seventh, 19:03), Kendall Wiebe (eighth, 19:03) and Ryan Wiebe (10th, 19:18) helped Peabody-Burns’ cause.

“This is the first time the varsity boys have run at Halstead and they ran the course well,” coach Kim Topham said.

“Kendall Wiebe ran an exceptionally good race,” she added. “He had a PR and was really excited to have run so well.”

Josh Klarrman (36th, 20:34) was the fifth Warrior to cross the finish line.

“Josh did not have a good day, but I am confident he will be there for us in the next few weeks,” Topham said.

Also racing for PBHS were Sheldon Wiebe (40th, 20:38), Seth Methvin (50th, 21:12) and Ethan Riggs (55th, 22:02).

Peabody-Burns is scheduled to run at Chapman on Thursday.

Canton Galva

The Eagles placed ninth at Halstead on Thursday.

Of the 102 runners who started the 5-kilometer race, 38 did not finish.

Competing for CGHS were Sam Janzen (57th, 22:25), Riley Nigh (58th, 22:25), Tad Wedel (59th, 22:30), Nathan Bray (62nd, 23:42), Nick Skiles (63rd, 24:32) and Codey Johnson (64th, 25:15).

CGHS runs on Thursday at Circle.

Goessel

The Bluebirds placed seventh at Berean Academy with an aggregate time of 101:59. A total of 16 schools participated, with seven fielding teams. The format for boys featured five separate races, with team results determined by the sum of times rather than the more common sum of places.

In the No. 1 race, Johnathan Berkholz finished in 20 minutes, 24 seconds. Jared Reimer (19:44) ran the No. 2 race, Laird Goertzen (19:11) the No. 3 race. Chad Wedel (20:39) the No. 4 race, and Chris Johnston (22:00) ran the No. 5 race.

Goessel’s next race is the Heart of America league meet at 4:30 p.m., Oct. 4, at Hutchinson Trinity.
